Hi,   I'm   Priscilla

Is there something else you’d like to do with your career, but you’re hesitating because you feel unqualified? It’s a common feeling among ambitious women. Especially when you haven’t gotten specific training in that thing you want to do.

But I’m here to tell you that shouldn’t stop you.  Our brains are wired to keep us safe and comfortable.  That means when we feel unqualified or inexperienced in a certain area, that lovely brain of ours will create self-doubt and fear, making us hesitant to take action.

Is it scary to try something new? Of course, it is.

But that’s exactly why I’m excited to share our next Women’s History Month feature.  This amazing woman is the perfect example of someone taking a leap of faith and using a career shift to level up her career, without any sort of training whatsoever in her new endeavor.

To frame the story, here’s a reminder of what a career shift means: choosing to stay within the same industry, but pursue a different role with different, but transferable skills.

Born in New York City in the 1940s, this woman had a passion for figure skating and dreamed of competing in the Olympics. However, despite her talent, she did not make it to the top level and had to embark on a new path. She attended college and earned a degree in art history, but then decided to pursue a career in journalism.

For several years, this person worked as an editor for a fashion magazine, but she still felt unfulfilled. She wanted to be a part of the fashion industry and create something of her own. At the age of 40, she made a bold move to quit her job and become a fashion designer.

This decision was not easy, as she had no formal training in fashion design and had to start from scratch. She worked hard to learn the craft and gain experience, starting with designing wedding gowns for friends and family. Her talent and dedication soon paid off, and her designs began to attract attention.

In the early 1990s, she launched her own fashion label, which quickly became a success. She focused on bridal gowns and evening wear, creating designs that were both elegant and modern. Her unique style and attention to detail made her a favorite among celebrities and high-profile clients.

Over the years, this person has continued to innovate and expand her brand, adding new lines and collaborations. She has received numerous awards and honors for her contributions to the fashion industry, including being inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 2005.

Today, this astounding woman is recognized as one of the most influential fashion designers of our time, known for her timeless designs and impeccable craftsmanship. She has proven that age is just a number and that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and make a career shift.

This remarkable person is none other than: Vera Wang.

Her story shows that with passion, dedication, and hard work, anything is possible. And you’re never too old or past your prime (as Oscar-winning Michelle Yeoh puts it) to do what you want. Vera Wang is a stark reminder that is indeed never too late to follow your dreams and create the life you want.
